In the dynamic industry of Visual Communications, our Print Design & Publishing Course will equip you with technical software skills and creative tools to make your mark in the creative industry with a solid understanding of graphic design and visual aesthetics.
During this one-year course you will learn how to effectively create logos, brochures, book covers, adverts and layouts, while gaining valuable insights into the fundamental design principals of the creative profession and the role of design thinking in creative problem-solving. You will master the tools, practices and terminology required to produce professional print media, and be confident to apply your skills from pre- to post-press.
Note: Upon completion of this course you will be awarded the Higher Certificate in Print Design and Publishing, NQF-level 5 (SAQA ID 85248, HEQSF-aligned, H/PR432/E002CAN, 152 Credits).
What will I learn?
The year is packed with theoretical and practical training that includes:
Understanding the History of Design and applying creative thinking techniques. The elements and principles of Design.
Theory on the Art of Typography, make an image with words, and design your own font and poster advert. Understanding Typography and its principles.
We will teach you the ins and outs of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
InDesign: Is the foundation tool for dynamic publishing in both print and digital media. Used to create beautiful magazine layouts, flyers, brochures, books and forms.
Illustrator: Is the leading vector illustration tool. Use it to create logos, icons, simple illustrations and complex visuals for use almost anywhere.
Photoshop: The programme everyone has heard of - far beyond making yourself look thinner, Photoshop is the market-leader in commercial image manipulation, popular for retouching photographs, creating surreal effects and blending imagery.
Understand the principles of branding in order to practically
re-brand a product or service.
Select, Plan and design a self-promo item and portfolio to showcase technical skills and understanding of design principles by providing evidence of work developed during the year.
