Friday night saw a gallery of legal artists and creatives gather round to display their customised Munny made from vinyl as opposed to the original concept produced by taggers (illegal artists) at our Hero exhibition. This is the Hero exhibition follow-up to the workshop held here at Friends of Design, the first of its kind in collaboration with sentientgamer.com and The Deckle Edge, the latter who kindly sponsored supplies.
The Hero exhibition has creatives adopt a bare humanoid-looking figure, or two, with movable parts and cultivate their imaginations into… a bird? a plane? Spiderman! These DIY vinyl figures transform into heroes, villains, gremlins and conjured up personas that even Salvador Dalí would never have visualised. All on display and all plugged-in into their beautiful conceptualised illustrations, which formed part of the backdrop. The Persistence of Memory – strikethrough, Munny saw The Exploding Man, Ninja Turtle, Destroyer, Cadaver, and many more stand and defend their spots in the limelight to about sixty enthusiasts.
Even Iron Man made a brief appearance at the Hero exhibition for a photo op for the love of cosplay. Champs was shared with the crowd, keeping the atmosphere warm and inviting. Details were covered nicely with tags cautioning you to respect the artists. Munnys were kept company with fitting music – lyrics by Five For Fighting – Superman and Tina Turner’s We Don’t Need Another Hero.
See them on display for the month of October and bring your friends and family along to share the fun.
