Friends of Design Academy of the Digital Arts is the proud venue partner of the Cape Town chapter of CreativeMornings. If you’re not sure what that is, you’ve been missing out!
What is CreativeMornings?
Originally founded in 2008 by Brooklynite, Tina Roth-Eisenberg, CreativeMornings was intended as a way to get New Yorkers to connect, share, learn and support each other in creative inspiration. The concept revolved around a monthly meetup over breakfast (with plenty of coffee!) to listen to a short talk by a speaker with a story or thought-provoking idea to share. The meetings were completely free and open to anyone and everyone, and took off in popularity like the proverbial house on fire.
Today, CreativeMornings are an international sensation with chapters in 188 cities across the globe. Each month’s breakfast speakers are chosen by the chapters based on a global theme, and feature design legends, local personalities, community heroes and everything in between.
Attendance is free and open to anyone with a curious mind, and thanks to generous sponsors, comes with complementary fuel for the stomach as well as the brain!
The CreativeMornings Manifesto
Everyone is creative.
A creative life requires bravery and action, honesty and hard work. We are here to support you, celebrate with you, and encourage you to make the things you love.
We believe in the power of community. We believe in giving a damn. We believe in face-to-face connections, in learning from others, in hugs and high-fives.
We bring together people who are driven by passion and purpose, confident that they will inspire one another, and inspire change in neighbourhoods and cities around the world.
Everyone is welcome.
CreativeMornings in Cape Town
Friends of Design has been the venue partner of the Cape Town chapter of CreativeMornings in our vibey CBD academy since 2012. We like to think of it as a way to connect with our community and share our passion for the creative industry, in partnership with the talented CreativeMornings Cape Town team.
Our fellow event partners include Amazee Labs & Sir Fruit. Guests are guaranteed a warm welcome, plenty of stimulating conversation, and a short, punchy talk by one of the Mother City’s most inspiring individuals.
Past speakers have included Monique Schiess and Robert Weinek of AfrikaBurn, satirist and performer Pieter-Dirk Uys, comedian and radio personality Angel Campey, and CEO of the Artscape Theatre, Marlene Le Roux. (Check out recordings of past talks, here.) This year promises an equally stellar line-up of fascinating breakfast talks, so make sure to sign up for the CreativeMornings newsletter to stay on top of upcoming events.
