Kickstart your career in Graphic Design
In collaboration with Friends of Design Business Solutions and the MICT SETA, Friends of Design -Academy of Digital Arts has 20 sponsored places available in a 3-month program to fast track your graphic design career.
Study & Earn
Not only will the course tuition be paid in full, successful applicants will also receive a stipend of R11 400 in total to cover their living expenses during their studies. It’s an incredible opportunity to focus 100% of your energy on kickstarting your career in graphic design without having to worry about paying the bills.
The course itself is a comprehensive introduction to Graphic Design essentials, including practical training in the Adobe Desktop Publishing Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign). Students will learn to create compelling visual communications like logos, brochures, flyers, posters and packaging, all under the supportive guidance of our Friends of Design industry expert lecturers.
You will earn the qualification international accredited Adobe Certified Associate through an exam written at the end of the 3 months. There will be an opportunity for a re-write after 4 months.

How to apply
To qualify for one of the Friends of Design MICT SETA Fast Track Graphic Design Bursaries, you need to be:
- A South African citizen
- Currently unemployed
- Unable to afford the normal course tuition
- Interested in Graphic Design as a career
- Computer literate
- Able to attend lectures in the Cape Town CBD, Monday – Thursday, 13:30 – 16:30.

Step 1: Download a copy of our bursary application form and fill it out.
Step 2: Create a typed, motivation (essay) around 100 words long telling us why you think you’re the ideal candidate for our Fast Track Graphic Design Bursary programme. Don’t forget to mention your current and future career goals, what you’re doing to achieve them, and how this course will help you.
Step 3: Wow us with your artistic potential by creating a self-portrait to accompany your application. Use any medium you like, but don’t send us any selfies – we want to see your design skills, not your amazing pout. Let your inspiration run wild and give us a glimpse into the inner you.
Step 4: Submit your application by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 31 August. Make sure you include:
- Your completed and initialled bursary application form
- A certified copy of your South African ID
- A Certified copy of your highest qualification
- Your 100-word motivation
- A scan/photograph/digital copy of your self-portrait artwork
If your application is successful, we’ll be in touch between 3 – 7 September 2018 to welcome you to your new Friends of Design tribe! The course will run from 10 September to 10 November 2018, with a final exam thereafter (exam dates to be confirmed).
